Cape Mentelle Shiraz Cabernet

Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon have been blended in Australia since the late 19th century in a style that uniquely combines the lush and spicy notes of Shiraz with the elegance, length and structure of Cabernet.
With this wine, Cape Mentelle harkens back to Australian wine traditions by blending these two outstanding grape varieties from the Margaret River region to create a rich, deeply textured and complex wine.

Our recommendation:
The spicy complexity of this wine pairswell   with local herbs and  rosemary roast lamb and roasted pumpkin. A rich curry of tofu and vegetables with buttered toast complements the dark spices and earthy notes of the wine.

Color:
Deep dark cherry with intense red edges.

Nose:
Aromatics are nuanced and complex; dark black wild berries, sweet bell bell pepper and toasted cinnamon overlay intense smoked cured meats. Subtler nuances of cocoa powder, umami and roasted lamb intertwine with undertones of leather and tobacco that combine with notes of sage and mint.
Palate:
Ahe palate is rich and powerful with notes of plums, cranberries and ripe black forest fruits such as boysenberries and black currants layered with cured meats and roasted coffee beans. Oak tones of vanilla beans, toasted walnuts and mocha alternate with toffee and molasses notes. The tannins are elegant and round with great volume.
